Oct 2011: Penny giving her koa some TLC |
Early 2012: Almost 9 feet tall and healthy |
Penny Prior planted her tree in early 2010, it's about 2 years old and 9 feet tall in the picture on the right in 2012.
“I have come many times to Ahu Lani Sanctuary, but now I have my own special site that feels so sacred and personal. I look forward to spending time with this tree whenever it is possible to return. I am happy to contribute to the restoration of the aina. Mahalo to all the people of Ahu Lani Sanctuary who have made this possible.” -- Aloha Penny |
Dano planted his koa tree in 2006. In 2012 it was 30 feet tall.
"Giving back to the land: I planted my koa seedling at Ahu Lani several years ago when I was there on a vacation. I was told to protect the seedling with rocks around the base so the wild pigs will not be able to dig it up. After many trips into the river gorge on the property I was able to gather enough rocks for the job. This was a very physical process but I finished the job. Years later I can see that the hard work payed off. I'm told the the koa seedling is now thirty feet tall. Unbelievable! I can't wait until I return one day to see the koa tree I planted and hopefully plant another one or two. Thank you Ahu Lani and Dave for the wonderful experience. I will always cherish the experience.” --Dano |
